The Schmoes

Not Your Average TV Schmoes–We Really Matter. Chronicles of a Nielsen People-Metered Household.

About

Not your average family, The Schmoes are one of America’s Nielsen families. Selected to represent tens of thousands of others, our viewing is monitored at all times using the infamous, secretive, controversial People Meters.  Each of our TVs is sits above a veritable ocean of cables and electronic components.  We push buttons each time we sit down to watch.  We push buttons every 45 minutes thereafter.  Our button pushes are captured by these components, to keep Nielsen informed. They sell the data collected from all households.  The data tells advertisers and TV execs what people are watching. Here for the first time you can learn why, not just what, at least from us.  We suspect clever TV and ad folks can use this information in ingenious ways to project future Nielsen numbers.
